Support your child at home with Maths-Whizz
Follow the Parent Guide below — see our letter, sign up for reports, send messages and stickers, receive weekly emails to stay connected to their progress, and watch the 30-minute training session to learn how to best support your child.

Maths-Whizz works best when parents, students, and teachers are all connected in the learning process.
Please avoid helping your child on their device. As Maths-Whizz is adaptive, giving answers can make their programme too difficult.
Instead, support your child alongside them by logging in to the Parent Portal, following their progress, and encouraging them to think for themselves.
Watch the webinar below to see how to best support your child at home.

If your child is completing an assessment at home, they will need their login details. We encourage students to do their re-assessment at the beginning of every year.
It’s important they complete the assessment independently, without help, so Maths-Whizz can accurately identify their learning needs.
Please show your child the relevant video below before they begin their assessment or reassessment.
Show your child the relevant video below after their assessment or reassessment:
Introduction to Maths-Whizz – Years 0-4 (on an iPad)
Introduction to Maths-Whizz – Years 5+
Teachers will provide your child with their login details (username and password).
Maths-Whizz is set at your child’s level, so it’s important they complete their work independently. Please avoid helping with answers, so the programme can accurately support their learning.
Blue Gems Represent New Learning.
Blue Gems represent new learning. The child is taught a concept, completes practice exercises, and then passes a short test to earn a Blue Gem.
By Friday each week, the child should aim to achieve at least 3 Blue Gems, building towards 5 Blue Gems to accelerate progress.
Please avoid helping with answers, as this can make the programme too difficult.
Usage is usually capped at 120 minutes per week.
Understanding Learning Progressions – Year 0-4
Students should first aim to reach the Hall of Fame each week (by Friday) by achieving:
• 3 Blue Gems (new learning)
• 3 Red Gems (practice and retention)
Once this is achieved, they can continue towards Whizz Champion (5 Blue + 5 Red) to further accelerate their learning.
The Topic Challenge area is where students consolidate their learning by revisiting previously learned activities and building towards gold medals.
We recommend students complete their Blue Gems first, then spend time in Topic Challenge to strengthen and retain their learning — ideally around 30 minutes of consolidation for every 60 minutes of new learning.
This video shows how students move from ‘no medal’ to gold medal exercises and earn maths credits as they build mastery.
This is an older video, but it introduces an important concept — you get out what you put in.
Students can typically achieve their 5 Blue and 5 Red Gems in around 60 minutes per week when they stay focused and give their best effort.
We encourage students to make the most of their learning time — it’s valuable and can’t be regained. By staying engaged and putting in their best effort during their Maths-Whizz sessions, they can maximise their progress and accelerate their learning.
