NZ case studies have shown that students who use
Maths-Whizz for 60 min per week accelerate their learning
on average, by 18 months in their first year of usage.
iLearn Education promotes effective use of Maths-Whizz, with a best practice guideline of 60 minutes per week embedded into the class mathematics programme. This is reflected in a usage cap (limit) of new learning at 120 minutes a week for students.
Maths-Whizz Tutor sets individual, adaptive online, programmes for each student and reports back against the NZC. Students receive lessons with a focus on filling in their gaps. Teachers are alerted to students who need their help. Students sit an initial online assessment that will identify their gaps and set a personalized programme for each student based on their strengths and weaknesses across all topics.
Students will receive exercises and tests at their level in all topics. There is a teaching component at the beginning of most exercises and students are assessing as they are learning with a focus on filling in their gaps, however teachers can set a topic focus aligning with their in class teaching.
Student programmes are automatically adjusted by an intelligent AI engine that responds to student learning needs, accelerating learners where learning progressions are made, and regressing them to prior learning when needed as well.
Maths-Whizz helps build student confidence as they work on a programme that is targeted to their level as they see progress, like every other student.
Every time a student make a “Maths-Whizz learning progression’, it fills in some blue, and automatically adjusts their programme. Maths-Whizz has an emphasis on filling in the gaps, however teachers can also override the programme so students receive lessons in a specific topic, but automatically at their level.
Maths-Whizz provides real time reporting, identifying students who need help, identifying the concept they are struggling with, and keeping students accountable for their time on devices.

We encourage schools to book an online training session for their staff at the beginning of each year during their Teacher Only Day to get staff off to the best possible start.
We also encourage schools to book a training session throughout the year.
Every term we create certificates for students who have made an average of 3 learning progressions or more per week, across the term.
As teachers, we are passionate about supporting our schools. Our experience is that our teachers feel well-supported in a timely manner.

We recommend all schools include a 30-min online Maths-Whizz training session in their Teacher Only Day at the beginning of the year.
If your school has used Maths-Whizz before we ask that any New Teachers do a training prior to the whole school session.
We encourage Maths-Whizz Leaders do a refresher session prior to the Teacher Only Day so they are familiar with changes.
We recommend the following outline to ensure that students and staff are confident and excited about these powerful resources:
– 30 min before school staff training
– 20 min student assembly in a shared space if possible
– iLearn facilitator working in class with teachers (20-30 min slots) while students use Maths-Whizz, to model effective classroom practice
– 45 min after school training session
In a recent visit to Rotorua we were able to spend a day in each of our Rotorua Schools, many who have used Maths-Whizz for several years.
– Progress of Students before visit – benchmarked data (Beginning of Year to Week 3, Term 3)
– Sustained Progress after PLD Day (Week 4 to Week 8, Term 3)
This shows a positive return on investment of the onsite PLD.
An offer to all schools to collate their independent school based testing with Maths-Whizz data, to further examine the effects of Maths-Whizz on student learning.
A report to schools with the provision of a ‘Performance Analysis Report’ looking at the impact Maths-Whizz is having on student progress and achievement. The Performance Analysis Report would also be provided in a format suitable for principals to provide feed back to their boards of trustees.
Schools receive one onsite PLD Day as part of the Enhanced Support Package.
Additional days can be added to the funding application.
Schools who are new to Maths- Whizz may choose to do one extra PLD day later in the year.
