Kaiāwhina/Teacher Aide Training Session:
What is Maths-Whizz and how can I use it to help my students?

These sessions are designed to empower Kaiāwhina/Teacher Aides with practical tools and strategies to support students effectively using Maths-Whizz. If you have a device in the classroom, you can easily log into the iLearn site, access your class, and provide 1:1 assistance without disrupting students’ personalised learning journeys.

Maths-Whizz automatically adjusts lessons to each student’s performance—progressing them if they get it right or revisiting concepts when they struggle. As a Teacher Aide, you can guide students through accessing the lessons on your device, introducing hands-on tools like whiteboards, counters, or clocks to help clarify challenging concepts identified by Maths-Whizz. Afterward, they can complete activities independently, allowing Maths-Whizz to respond to their independent responses.

This approach enables you to make a meaningful impact on student confidence and learning outcomes. Many Teacher Aides have used these strategies powerfully, showing how even simple interactions can unlock a student’s potential.

What you’ll learn in this session:

  • How the student programme works: Understanding personalised learning pathways
  • Progressions: Blue and Red Gems, and the Hall of Fame explained
  • Accessing Maths-Whizz on your device: How to help students without disrupting their progress
  • Identify Students Who Need Your Help: Maths-Whizz provides clear insights, showing you exactly which students need your help
  • Access the lesson to help the student understand: Maths-Whizz gives you the exact lesson to work through with the student – you don’t need to be the expert!
